What a big budget can buy you today in Paris

Maybe you’re in the market for a 5M€ Paris apartment. Maybe not.

In the first case, take this chance to get a glimpse of what’s currently available. Otherwise, just indulge your curiosity. The encouraging reality is that 5 million euros mostly serve to buy you more space in a prestigious location, maybe with some luxury features included. Such a sum is not required to find an elegant and spacious living room, a charming bedroom, an inviting kitchen, a comfortable bathroom, and even a balcony. For that, a single million may suffice. Surprisingly, an apartment interior is just as likely to be lacking originality, personality, or good taste in the 5 million range than in the million range.

There are even 5 million euro apartments that make you want to jump out through their beautiful French doors. Perhaps the last residence of a recently departed eccentric aristocrat with a passion for taxidermy? Or maybe the bourgeois widowed grandmother who covered the parquet floors with carpet in 1973 and never saw a reason to change a thing since. I am not putting these up for display.

The apartments I’ve selected in the 5 million range have at least one thing special about them, be it the view, the architecture, the interior design, or some other feature.

They tend to be scattered across the western arrondissements of Paris where such prices are more commonly found. The 16th arrondissement, for example, offers the widest selection of spacious apartments, even though the price per square meter is higher in the central arrondissement.
